Outfit: July 13th – Green Dress, Tan Jacket, Leopard Print Shoes

I didn’t really need the jacket today as it was pretty warm out, even at 8am. But I figured I couldn’t really post another outfit with just this dress, despite what I said about that the other week, so I added the jacket for some interest.
My hair was pretty much au natuelle this day – I washed it the night before, part dried it with my diffuser, slept on it damp then in the morning added sea salt spray and scrunched again, fixing it with gel spray. It’s a bit messy but isn’t that how beachy waves are supposed to look?

Outfit: July 12th – A New Look

I think I have mastered beachy waves in my hair at last! So, for the benefit of no one but myself, here’s what I did: second day hair (I used my waving wand on it the previous day) sprayed liberally with sea salt spray (got2Be is my brand of choice because it’s cheap), scrunched and then once the spray has dried a little, spray on my usual gel spray to hold the style. My curls look a little ‘done’ here, especially at the front, but by the time I’d walked to work I had the perfect beachy waves going on. Yay!

So the title of this post is misleading. Sorry. No new look as such, just that my entire outfit (bar the shoes) is (unintentionally) all from New Look. The pieces range greatly in age: the t shirt is this spring, the cardi I have had many, many years and the skirt I have also had many years but it came from a charity shop so who knows how old it is?! Pretty old I would wager, given the logo that’s on the label hasn’t been used in a long time.

Outfit: July 10th – Rain After The Sunshine

After a lovely, sunny weekend Monday morning dawned wet and rainy. I didn’t mind too much though as I was planning to cover up anyway. A weekend spent in the sun left me looking a bit pink on my shoulders and thighs so long sleeves were definitely the way forward for a day or two. I often feel that my long sleeve t shirts get a bit neglected anyway. It’s not often that it’s the right temperature to just wear them as they are – I always need a layer under or over them in winter, and then the weather warms up and I go straight for short sleeves. So I decided to give my burgundy top some love this day.

I spent Saturday with my sister and my five year old niece, Little Miss M. We went to Build A Bear in the morning, a very belated fifth birthday present for her, then in the afternoon we had a water fight in my back garden as it was hot and sunny. The young man joined in too and little Miss M thought it was the best thing ever.

Sunday afternoon I sat and read for most of the time. It’s not often that I’ll spend so much time reading, but I just started a new Dorothy Koomson book (she is totally my favourite author, if you’ve never read any of her books then go and check them out!) on my Kindle app and once I get going with anything of hers it’s really hard to put it down. I even switched to reading on my phone for a while when the battery ran out on my iPad!

Finally, I did my hair over the weekend. I’m still getting it properly cut and styled in a week’s time, so it will probably have changed again by the time this post goes live, but the scraggy ends finally got the better of me and I put a darker colour on it to improve the condition, as well as chopping my longest sections about two inches to get rid of the worst bits. So it’s temporary new hair, but I feel like it looks so much better already.

Outfit: July 6th – All In Navy

We were predicted thunderstorms the day I wore this so I put on my trainers to walk to and from work and stashed my sandals in my bag. Heavy rain and open shoes do not a good combination make: for one thing you get wet feet, and for another, your shoes get really slippery and hard to walk in.

I didn’t really need the cardi but this top doesn’t have sleeves and I like to have the option to cover up in the office. I got this top in TK Maxx a couple of months ago before I went to Italy. I seemed to be short of tops that were sleeveless but which didn’t have ridiculously low necklines so that they were suitable for hot weather in the office. This top and the striped one I wore on July 2nd fit the bill perfectly. It’s always worth a rummage in TK Maxx. There’s a lot of cr*p, granted, but there is often a gem or two too.

Outfit: July 5th – Too Much Leopard Print?

Is there such a thing as too much leopard print though? Perhaps a full on catsuit made of the stuff would be too much but other than that? No. I don’t think there is such a thing.

So you know those mornings when you just want to scream? Yeah, I had one of those this day. I got up, checked the forecast, checked out of the windows: dry, overcast in the morning with bright sunshine in the afternoon. I put a load of washing on. The washing finished, I put it in the basket, stepped out of the door to hang it on the line: drizzling. Gah. Got the airer down, put it in the conservatory, hung all the washing on it, got ready, stepped out of the door again. Dry. Gah. Took the airer out of the conservatory, stepped out of the door to put it in the garden (didn’t have time to take everything off the airer and hang it all on the line): raining again. GAAAAAHH! Decided to just leave the airer in the garden and hope it dried up as forecast. Gah. (Also, #firstworldproblems)

Anyway, I am getting my hair cut in a couple of weeks and I CANNOT WAIT. I feel like the ends just look so scraggy and I’m ready for it doing. By the time this post goes live I might even have had it done. Yay!

Outfit: 4th of July

It was only after I got dressed that morning I realised I should have worn red, white and blue but as I’m not in the US I didn’t dwell on it. I countered it by playing Martina McBride’s Independence Day on repeat later in the day.

I hadn’t worn these striped trousers in months so I pulled them out and paired them with my current favourite top. I would have added my tan lace up flats, but I’ve done my old trick of walking a hole in the bottom and they’re currently awaiting repair. So I went with the snakeskin pair instead.

Outfit: July 3rd – Orange, Grey and Black

It was a dreary Monday morning – warm but damp, so a bright pop of colour was definitely in order. And I don’t own anything brighter than this jacket. It also meant that I could co-ordinate with the beads, which were my grandmother’s.

Outfit: July 2nd – Back to School

Every summer my old high school hosts a family fun day and my sister and I usually attend with my nieces. We went there last Sunday and it was a lovely afternoon – there were two bouncy castles and one of our old teachers took us for a tour round the school to show us what had changed since we left. Quite a lot apparently – they’ve spent £20 million on facilities in the last 20 years.

It was warm and sunny so I wore a tank top under my blazer, and distressed denim for some ventilation on my legs.

Outfit: June 29th - Still Raining

We reached pretty much the end of June and it was still raining. And it wasn’t particularly warm either. I read several posts on Facebook the previous evening about people putting their heating on (and rightly so, it was all of 9˚C at tea time that day). I knew I wouldn’t be warm enough in my ¾ sleeve top so I put a blazer over the top for warmth, and to smarten up what is really just a jeans and t shirt outfit. I was going to go with my faux-leather jacket, but thought it was better to go for something I could keep on all day, and the blazer allowed me to put my rain mac over the top. The rain mac was a much-needed addition for walking to work. As were the ankle boots I switched out my shoe for to walk up the hill.

I love this LTS top – it’s the Relaxed Weekend T and it has a lovely drape to the fabric. It’ll be really useful for cooler days when I want longer sleeves than my beloved New Look and Boohoo shirts have.
