The spring weather came to an abrupt end with wind, rain and a forecast of snow for Tuesday morning. So thanks for that, March. I wanted to wear my little striped dress but it needed a layer because of the shorter length sleeves so I put my orange blazer over it. I wore my polka dot ballet flats but if you saw my Instagram story from that morning you’ll know I put a pair of boots on for the rainy walk to work.

I was having a think about my blog over the weekend and I decided to try something different. I feel like some of my outfits don’t photograph terribly well, especially since I hopped aboard the oversize jumper trend. One of my commenter suggested making a video of those types of outfit so you can see how it moves, and I tried that out this week. What do you think – yay or nay?

A week ago Saturday the tallgirls.co.uk website held a pop up event in Leeds.  I was very excited as they have previously only been to London, Birmingham and Manchester.  Online shopping is great, but sometimes it's nice to have the opportunity to try stuff on before you buy it, rather than ordering, trying on at home and then returning it if it doesn't fit.

The Tall Girls team had set up shop in a room in the Met Hotel in Leeds and it was the real deal, with changing rooms, a shoe department and possibly the longest rack of jeans I've ever seen in my life!  It was certainly the longest rack of jeans that I knew were all the right length (or even too long) for my legs.

Me with Joanne McHarg

Joanne McHarg founded the company in 1998 with a range of footwear in size 9 and larger, and then branched out into clothing in 2001.  She still runs the company today and it was lovely to meet her in person at the pop up.  We follow each other on Instagram and I think it was the first time I've ever been recognised from social media.

I had a good look round the shop and tried on lots of things, eventually picking out this fabulous biker jacket to take home with me (it also comes in navy and I'm hoping I might get that one for my upcoming birthday).

There are a few other pop up shops taking place this spring, details are on the website.  So if you're tall get yourself down there and check it out!

So the lovely spring weather we had been enjoying all week was replaced by grey skies and rain. Thanks for that, March. It was also chillier than of late so out came a sweater again to accompany my jeans for casual Friday.

These jeans were actually something of a steal: they were labelled as being £18 but when I got them to the till they rang up at just £6: don’t you LOVE it when that happens?! They are really nice quality denim too – super stretchy but quite thick, not the thin fabric that stretchy jeans are often made out from. The whole outfit was actually pretty cheap, coming in at about £14.60 in total.

I paired my army green jeans with grey. I am slightly obsessed with these cross front t shirts right now, I just love that the cross strap detail elevates a basic. They’re also super soft and the cotton/modal blend means they hang really nicely. I added my camo flats to keep with the army theme.

We are going to a wedding next month and I have been trying to find a dress to wear. When you’re tall and the tall ranges are not delivering you have to scour the high street websites and check out the height of the models (whoever came up with the idea of putting models’ heights in the item description was a genius) to find something that won’t be scandalously short on someone 5’11”. I ordered this dress from New Look (it’s by AX Paris)

And this dress from Debenhams (from the Principles by Ben de Lisi range)

And I bought this one from Lipsy at Next

I also bought a navy polka dot one from TK Maxx which isn’t on their website.

I tried them all on for the young man. The TK Maxx one was deemed nice but not wedding-y so it went back. The Debenhams one was a strange fit on my (something to do with my height I suspect…). The New Look one and the Lipsy ones are the main contenders at the time of writing.

My New Glasses (2017 Edition)

20170324_193438

You may have noticed that I got new glasses a few weeks ago. Given that some of my most popular past posts were one about my glasses, I thought I’d do a post about the new pairs that I got this time. (This post is not sponsored – I wish it were! – I just know that people are interested in reading about my glasses.)

I went to ASDA again as they are cheap. But the service is good and they seem to do a thorough eye examination (and as someone who’s been having her eyes tested since she was eight, I should know!). I had my eyes tested and my sight had got even shorter than before meaning I needed to pick out some new glasses. I was kind of thinking I would get some new ones anyway, even if my prescription hadn’t changed, as I’d had my other pairs almost two and a half years and I was ready for a change.

20170324_193416

After about an hour of deliberation (it takes ages to choose new frames when you can’t see your whole face in the mirror when you’re close enough to the mirror to be able to see clearly – if I want to see clearly in the mirror my nose has to be about an inch away from it, at that distance you can’t see your whole face. So I had to try on a pair of frames, take a picture on my phone, put my own glasses back on, look at the picture and decide what I thought. Yes it would have been easier to come back another time when I had my contact lenses in. No I didn’t want to do that as the ASDA store with the optician in isn’t that close to my house or work now – I used to drive past it on the way home from my previous job. Yes the whole process was much more difficult before the invention of camera phones.) I finally picked out a pair of ordinary glasses and a pair of sunglasses. Well, I picked out two options for the sunglasses, but given my complex prescription (I think that’s just a polite way of them saying that I’m blind as a bat!), and therefore the thickness of my lenses, I had to go for the smaller option.

20170324_193205

The ordinary glasses are by Morgan and the model number is 201094-4133. They are black on the outside with a bright pink inside and you can see them on the ASDA website here.

The sunglasses I chose are by 7 For All Mankind (and it’s my dream to get a pair of jeans from the same brand to match them…) and are model number 7095 (here on the ASDA website).  At the time of writing I hadn’t actually worn them as it hadn’t been sunny enough… but I’m sure they’ll come into their own come the summer. I picked them because they look like regular sunglasses and when you spent as many years as I did not wearing sunglasses at all because you couldn’t see through them, getting to wear them now is still something of a novelty. Even after all the years I’ve had contact lenses.

So there you have it: two pairs of new glasses, one of which is getting (almost) constant wear, the other I live in hope that the sun will come out one day and let me wear them!

Outfit: March 15th – Navy Suit, Sort Of

15-03-17e

It was another beautifully sunny day on Wednesday. I wore a mis-matched navy suit (the jacket is a little lighter than the pants) and dressed it down with sneakers and stripes as there is no need to wear a suit in my office. I love this little navy blazer. I bought it on eBay with the matching skirt about four or five years ago for about £10. The skirt was too small so I sold it on, but for that price I didn’t mind just having the jacket and it has certainly been worn enough to bring its cost per wear into fairly low pence.

The pants I got in Next last year when I was temping and needed some smarter work trousers. When my previous office went casual full time I didn’t bother to replace many of my smarter trousers so when I suddenly had to smarten myself up again I was short. They are not supposed to be cropped, that’s just what Next’s long length looks like on me (and probably why Next and all other retailers should rethink their definition of ‘long’). It was spring though, so it didn’t really matter. And the top is ancient H&M – I also have the red version of this and purchased the navy colourway as I knew the sleeve length was good on the red one for a non-tall item. But also because, buttons on the sleeves and shoulder.

Blazer – Long Tall Sally (eBay)
Top – H&M
Trousers – Next

I like to wear a jacket rather than a sweater or cardi as my cover up to smarten up my outfits a bit. This bright red number is by Episode but was purchased from a charity shop a couple of years ago for all of about £5. The only thing I would change about it is the zip, for a silver one, but that isn’t a big deal. I like the fitted shape and the bright, vibrant colour.

I kept the rest of my outfit fairly simple with the black pants and stripes, but I added in a leopard print shoe and my leopard print hoop earrings just for a little something extra.

Top – Zara (sale)
Pants – F+F at Tesco
Shoes – George at ASDA
