Outfit: September 7th – Smart/Casual

I took inspiration for today’s post from my own Instagram feed. I do that sometimes when I don’t know what to wear. I scrolled through and saw that back in the spring I paired this skirt with lots of more casual items – oversize sweaters, sneakers. It isn’t sweater weather just yet (and I’m really trying not to be sad about that and to enjoy the last of the summer warmth) so I picked out this blouse which has been neglected over the summer due to its polyester fabric composition, and added sneakers.

If your workplace is less casual than mine you can add heels, like I did here (I like to play dress up sometimes too…) and for a moment I almost missed wearing heels and briefly considered putting them in my bag to change into when I got to the office. But then comfort won out (I think it’s an age thing) and I stuck with the sneakers.

It may not be sweater weather but the mornings are getting a little chilly so I added my burgundy biker jacket for warmth.

Outfit: September 6th – Orange

The one day I don’t wear army green both my female colleagues do wear it! Guess I didn’t get that memo…

So this orange top is the twin sister of the green Long Tall Sally one that I wear a lot. I figured that as I love the shape so much the orange one would get plenty of wear too. It will, I just need to figure out what else to pair it with. You can’t go wrong with denim and stripes I find.

The zip on this skirt gave up the ghost halfway through the day (I hate plastic zips) but I think I should be able to sew in a new zip and fix it. I hope so as I love this skirt.

Outfit: September 5th – Rainy Day

What was I saying in my previous post about adding a cardi and boots to autumnalise (totally a word!) a summer dress. I guess this isn’t technically a summer dress but it does tend to stick to tights so will probably be packed away for the winter season. In the meantime though it works with light coloured boots and a cardi on a wet and rainy day. I went with a lighter weight cardi this time so that I could put my trench coat over the top (see: wet and rainy).

Outfit: September 4th – Just Add a Cardi

I read the best tip over on Putting Me Together last week: if you want to make a summer dress autumnal just add a dark coloured cardi and boots. It wasn’t cold or wet enough for boots this day, but the cosy cardi definitely worked against the morning chill. I almost wore the striped flats from my previous post again as I’m aware that their days are numbered this year now, not being at all practical unless it’s dry and warm out. But there was a dampness in the air and the ground was wet so I didn’t risk getting them dirty and put on this darker polka dot pair instead.

The dress isn’t strictly a summer one – it’s a heavy jersey fabric but it does have short sleeves and a short length so it will probably work all year round really.

Outfit: September 2nd – Navy Blue and Striped Flats

This was a casual Saturday outfit for running a few errands and taking a couple of walks to get my step count up. Although I did switch to trainers for the walking.

Outfit: September 1st – Biker Jacket Season

I feel like the start of September is a good time to pull out my biker jacket collection. The mornings are getting chillier but nowhere near needing an actual coat. A biker jacket or a blazer makes the perfect outer layer until the sun warms the place up a little later on in the day.

This green one is from Primark and they were thin on the ground when I got this one back in July. I suspect that only the black colourway may be available by now but it’s worth checking a few stores as you never know. I like that the underside of the sleeves has a stretchy fabric panel as I often find jacket sleeves to be so narrow they impede movement. No such problem with this one!

These shoes were destined for the bin after this day’s outing. The lovely turquoise colour had all cracked and peeled off and they were a bit of a mess really. They only cost £3.50 so you can’t really expect much I suppose, but a few more wears would have been nice.

Outfit – August 31st – Back To Work

Unfortunately I didn’t have enough leave days to take a full two weeks off, so I ended up going back to work for two days. Sad face. The transition to autumn was definitely in the air, even though it was still August and therefore still (technically) summer. I put my big, plaid scarf on to walk to work and I wasn’t too hot by the time I arrived. The forecast was for rain which was why I put on boots.

I don’t know why my phone camera insists on washing out this shade of green and making it look grey, but it does.

Outfit: August 25th – New Favourite Outfit

So the August bank holiday weekend was upon us and I don’t know about you, but I always feel like that marks the end of the summer. I was off work the week before and a couple of days after the bank holiday so it was casual all round. The Friday I wore this was forecast to be a little cooler weather-wise, hence the sweatshirt. It turned out to be an outfit I loved, and I wore it again in the Lake District a few days later.

Outfit: August 22nd - Beach Dress

There was a beach in the city centre the last few weeks of August. Yes, a beach in the city centre. They set it up every summer in one of the squares. There's a giant sand pit (for want of a better description), children's funfair rides and stalls selling food. My sister and I took my nieces and they both had a whale of a time. It was warmer than it had been in previous days so I wore a dress.

Outfit: August 18th – Batwing

I don’t know why this top looks so grey in the photos – it isn’t, it’s green! And looking at these photos I’m think that it isn’t the most flattering top either so I might get rid of it. What do you think?

My hair was super curly this day. The first day I wash my hair I curl it with a ½ inch barrel wand and it goes super curly. Then on days two, three and sometimes four, let’s be honest, I will brush it out and spray it with gel spray to get softer waves. I find that’s the best way for me to make my hair style last multiple days and be super low maintenance on days two to three four. It also limits the use of heat to two or three times a week.
