Happy Friday y’all! It’s the start of the August Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK, and I suppose that means it’s the end of the summer. It’ll be September on Tuesday and, as much as I like the autumn, it’s always sad to say goodbye to the warmer weather.

This jacket was an eBay bargain, it cost a whole £1.70! Which, for a jacket that is 45% wool, isn’t bad really. It will be great come the cooler weather but works now too.

NOW Discount Red

Once upon a time (10 years ago?) I would wear flared jeans all the time. Then skinny jeans became a thing, took over the world, and my flares languished at the bottom of my jeans pile, unloved. This pair is one of only two I currently own in a wider leg and it feels like a fresh, new silhouette for me (even though it really isn’t). These jeans aren’t even true flares, they’re The Bootcut by Next but still, after super skinnies, any width on the leg opening feels like a lot.

The trouble is that skinnies are just so much more practical then flares or bootcuts. For one thing, you don’t need different lengths for heels or flats. If it rains you can wear your boots over your skinnies, avoiding that horrible feeling of wet denim flapping about your ankles. And you don’t need to wear trainers with a chunky sole (as I had to; thank goodness for Skechers Shape Ups) if you want to get out for a walk at lunchtime.

I feel as though I’m all leg in flared jeans too. I mean, I am all leg all of the time but with the extra, foot covering fabric of flares my legs appear longer. Which I suppose is the point of flares/bootcuts for most people: their leg lengthening ability. But when you’re 5’11” and most of your height is in your legs, I’m not entirely sure you need further help on the leg lengthening front.

On an unrelated note: it looks like red and orange are the colours of the month on my blog. I promise I am wearing other colours on days when I don’t take pictures.

Recipe: Really Easy Microwave Courgetti

Here’s a really easy lunch recipe you can cook in your work kitchen microwave, with just a few minutes’ preparation the night before.

Serves 1

Ingredients
2 medium courgettes
Carton of passata
Oregano
Grated cheese (I used 25g of mature cheddar)

Method
Spiralise your courgettes and place in a microwavable bowl. Pour over as much passata as it takes to coat the courgette spirals and mix together. Sprinkle some oregano on top and mix that in. Cover with cling film and refrigerate until ready to cook. Put the grated cheese in a separate container.

Microwave the courgetti and sauce for 2 minutes, stir and cook for a further 1.5 minutes (or more, or less, depending how powerful your microwave is). Once the courgette is cooked sprinkle the cheese over the top so it melts and enjoy!

I used a small amount of cheese and this was only 3pp on Weight Watchers, but if you’re not following an eating plan you can use as much cheese as you like. I would also try this again without the cheese on a day when I need a 0pp lunch because I’m eating out at teatime.

Georgia Rose silver flats

If I wear anything that isn’t jeans at this point it’s something of an event for me. This outfit’s event was just Monday, but a dress and leggings were dressy yet still comfy. The jacket smartened up the look for the office (not that my office is smart at all – it’s casual dress all the way if you want to).

This is what I wore on Friday, possibly the best day of the week weather-wise. It started off at only 8ºC though: what’s that about, July? I’m crossing my fingers that August can do better on the warmth and sunshine front.
