My New Glasses

I was asked by a reader the other day to show you some more detailed pictures of my new glasses frames and to tell you who they were by and what the style numbers were. So here goes!

The first pair I picked are by Jai Kudo. They are a metal frame and are a lovely deep pinky-purple colour. They are style number 545 in Cherry. They are quite different to any I’ve had before, and especially to my last pair. I have usually gone for a neutral colour or a metal tone but I really liked the shape of these and the young man approved too!

The second pair is the one I was coerced into switching to by the optician. I had picked out another pair of metal frames but she said I would be better with plastic frame as the lenses are quite thick (what you see here is after thinning – yes, I am THAT blind) and plastic frames are one piece holding in the lenses whereas the metal ones have a screw holding them together. This pair is by Oasis and is called Jacaranda. They are quite similar to my previous pair, but they have thinner metal arms rather than the wide plastic arms my old ones had.

I took several shots of each pair, with and without the flash so you can get a better idea of how they look.

  6. They both look great on you, don't listen to the opticians in future though, and pick the frames YOU like. Thanks for the photos. Hope you're enjoying wearing them. What's your prescription by the way?

  7. Thank you. And ironically it's the pair that I was made to change to that I'm wearing the most now!
My prescription is strong - minus 10 in one and and minus 9 in the other.

  8. My prescription is close to yours, Shoegalfi, minus 8.75 and minus 9.5 with 2.50 astigmatism :-((((
And my optician didn't want I choose my rayban wayfarer frames because of weight and thickness of my lenses, but I LOVE these frames ;-) and I'm very very satisfied to keep my own choice...
I love my new glasses and I'm laughing to Knowles that you did the same with your optician... ^^
And I lové shoes tooooooo.... I dream to wear a pair of Louboutin (THE best !) ans I keep money to be able in the near future to buy it.. :-))))))))

  10. Love the glasses, they look absolutely superb on you, particularly the second pair.

Given the weather at the moment, do you have any prescription sunglasses?

  11. Love both pairs of glasses - they look superb on you. Thanks for flying the flag for myopic girls everywhere (I'm not quite as high as you yet - only -7.75 and -7.50 at the moment!)

I got my latest prescription glasses from http://www.fashioneyewear.co.uk/. It was actually customized to meet my lens needs.

  15. Thank you! I don't seem to be wearing the cherry red pair very often though...must rectify that.

  16. Hi Fi

I like both frames, but prefer the Oasis ones to the Jai Kudo ones. You don't seem to wear the Jai Kudo ones very often so I'm wondering if you think the same?

I'm not as short-sighted as you (-6.5 & -6.75) but have very dry eyes so can't tolerate contact lenses, so am full time with specs.

It's so nice to see a fashion blogger who is proud to wear specs - you're like a champion for all us bespectacled babes!

    Take care

  17. Thanks Susie! It's not that I like the Oasis ones better, it's that I think they're more robust (being partly plastic) so they tend to get worn on an evening and then because they're out I'll wear them the next day if I'm wearing glasses.

The Jai Kudo ones have a little bit on the front at each side that seems to catch my hair, and it's really annoying! I've been wearing them the past two days, but I've also pinned the front section of my hair back.

  18. Wow - I love your glasses! As a glasses wearer myself I'm thinking of going for something a bit more hipster - did you try anything similar when you last shopped for frames? I wear reactive lenses at the moment but thinking of ditching them as my other half says tinted glasses make me look a bit shifty! Will just have to invest in some prescription sunglasses as well, I guess! Do you have any prescription sunglasses?

    Thanks for sharing

  19. Hi Bex
I did try on some hipster glasses and I quite liked the look, but the young man didn't so I didn't choose them. I used to have prescription sunglasses, and intended getting some this summer but never got round to it. I think they're a great idea if you wear your glasses all the time. I've never tried reaction lenses but I'm not a big fan of the look on others I have to admit.

  20. Thanks for sharing your recent glasses purchases - they both look really nice, great choice. I guess, like me, you must have been wearing specs for quite a few years now. It would be interesting to see how styles have changed over the years - have you kept all your old pairs? If not I'm sure you must have some old photos of you wearing them - perhaps you could do a chronicle of glasses fashion over the last X years for us in a future blog post?

  21. That's a great idea Jayne - mind if I steal it for my own blog?!!!

I'm in my mid-40s now so glasses have changed a lot from when I got my first pair aged 16. I think I've got every pair in a box in the loft at my parents' home, so I'll get them next time we see them. My first pair were plastic, sort of mottled blue and clear with gold arms. I thought they were very trendy at the time, but they'll look pretty naff now I think!

  22. I haven't kept all my old pairs, but I might be able to dig out some pictures at my mom's house. I'll have a look.

  23. Thanks Fi - would love to see a chronicle of how fashion has changed in eyewear over the last decade or two (depending how far back your spectacle wearing days go of course!)

  24. I was 8 when I started wearing glasses. I'll have to raid the family photo albums next time I'm home.

  25. Sounds great Fi - looking forward to seeing your chronicle of eyewear fashion over the last 20+ years.

  26. I love both pairs Fiona, would love to see you modelling some larger frames which seem to be in vogue now. Have you thought about picking up some cheap ones from Zenni Optical, Firmoo, Goggles4u, or one of the other online vendors?

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's about time you got some more new specs, isn't it? A bit like shoes, I don't think you can have too many pairs to match up with different outfits. As a blogger I got a free pair from Firmoo recently and can highly recommend them.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Unfortunately I didn't meet whatever Firmoo's criteria are for dishing out free specs. Which is a shame as I'd chosen a really lovely pair as well.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What a shame! Why don't you just buy them anyway? Which pair did you choose

  32. I chose so fabulous cat eye style ones. I might consider them the next time I am buying new glasses.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mmm - I absolutely love cat eye specs, I've got three pairs now and a serious glasses buying addiction! (Used to be expensive until I discovered the numerous online glasses vendors).

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm just getting into cat eye frames too, although I especially like the slightly deeper ones that are quite prolific now too. Would love to see Fi modelling some for her fans!
