This Week I Will Be Mostly…

…wearing my new dresses
…reading ‘Look’ magazine. I’ve never bought it before but can see myself becoming addicted. It’s trashy, it’s full of high street fashion and it will be great fodder for my look book.
…watching Ugly Betty. Seriously, that and Friends DVDs are all I ever watch at the moment. Maybe I should have a listening to… section on here instead.
…listening to Stuart Marconie and Mark Radcliffe on Radio 2. Loving the new evening show!
…eating Frosties
…shopping in the charity shops

Charity Shop Bargains!

On Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon I went scouring the local charity shops. Sometimes I get lucky and find all sorts, and sometimes there’s nothing I like.

On Friday I bought:

The top in Saturday’s outfit picture, £4.99 in British Heart Foundation (BHF)
This Florence + Fred (Tesco) dress, 99p (yes, you read that right, 99p! The local St Gemma’s Hospice shop sells all its clothes at 99p). You can’t tell from the terrible dark picture but it has a flowery pattern on it in maroon and black.

On Saturday I bought:
New Look shoes, £4.99 in Oxfam

Stripy dress, £4.99 in a different BHF shop. It has no label in it but the waist is in the perfect place for me suggesting it has come from somewhere selling tall clothes.)

Two necklaces, one bright pink, one a dark blue heart, £1 each in Scope. (All the jewellery in my local Scope is £1 per item, and it’s new, not second hand.)

Yes I know I’m not meant to be shopping at the moment but I spent £18 in all (and that’s all I’ve spent on clothes/shoes since the end of January), and got 2 dresses, a top, 2 necklaces and a pair of shoes, plus, all the money went to charity. So I think I can be excused this one lapse! But that’s it now for another 3 months or so.

It’s cool and overcast at the moment. I went for cropped jeans as the forecast was good so I’m hoping the sun will come out later.

Outfit: Sunny Spring Thursday

Two pictures today (well aren’t you privileged!). I don’t think I’ve posted this coat on here yet and I really wanted to show it off as I’m going to be wearing it as my summer coat this year. In previous years I would just throw on a denim jacket or cord blazer over whatever I was wearing. I will still do that sometimes, but I just love a longer coat, they’re so ladylike. And in keeping with my New Year’s Resolution to dress up more, this coat is perfect. It was bought a couple of years ago with a matching skirt as a Christening/wedding outfit, but it doesn’t get nearly enough wear. And also, we have no weddings or Christenings to go to this summer. So it’s going to get the wear it deserves.

Pink coat – Jeff Banks Studio (Debenhams)
Denim dress – Miss Selfridge (oh look, I found a dress in my wardrobe that’s not black!)
Pink belt – Charity Shop
Black shrug – Unknown
Pink shoes – Faith

What the…?!

OK, it’s official. Topshop have finally lost it. Not content with the playsuits and dungarees, they’re now selling coloured jeans. Skinny, coloured jeans. The blue, green and red ones I could just about live with. But yellow? Really? Why Topshop? Why do you keep doing this to us? Hiring colour blind buyers with zero taste. For a fashion store. Why?!
If you do feel like injecting some early 90s ‘chic’ into your life though, these hideous trousers will set you back £40. (Again, why?!)

My New Mirror

I got a new full length mirror last night. It’s this one, from IKEA:

This is very exciting for me as for the past 2 years the full length mirror I owned has had a chunk missing out of the middle of it. I used to keep it at the bottom of the stairs 2 houses ago, propped up against the wall. One morning I fell down the stairs and knocked into the mirror. The mirror, being quite bendy, broke in the middle (though strangely enough the empty glass I’d had in my hand did not break). I ended up with glass in my knee, grazes on my leg, and a broken mirror. Though not 7 years bad luck I hasten to add, I don’t believe in such things. Anyway, the mirror remained broken through 2 house moves until my mum gave me some birthday money last week to buy a new one. And this mirror is absolutely HUGE. I’m not kidding: it’s about 6ft tall and 3ft wide and I love it! So there will be more full length outfit shots to come.

I don’t think I’ll be able to wear boots much longer if the warm weather returns, so I’m going to take advantage on days like this when it’s a bit cooler outside.

Outfit: Windy Thursday

It’s very spring like here today. The blossom is out on the tree in the garden, the sun is shining and the sky is blue with patches of white cloud. It’s a chilly breeze though.

Updated Links Column

I have added some new links on the side bar, and also deleted a few. Some people have stopped blogging and some have disappeared without trace, so it was time for an update. Check out the new links, especially Dollymix, a new blog from Shiny Media.

Outfit: Sunny Wednesday

All my summer dresses are black. Or have black in them. How did that happen? Actually, I know the answer to that: it’s because I only got into dresses this autumn/winter, when black was a totally appropriate colour to buy, then I stopped shopping in January so have not been able to partake in the colourfulness that is this year’s spring/summer collections. Will have to make do with my black for now.

Aldo

I have just discovered that Aldo do shoes up to a size 9 (42). Albeit a small size 9 but a size 9 nonetheless! So of course I have to pick out my favourites to show you…
The silver of this Temse style is bang on trend for this season’s metallics, and the D’Orsay shape reminds me of Carrie’s ‘stolen shoes’ in the final season of Sex and the City, ‘A Woman’s Right to Shoes’.
